With news reports and research commenting on the negative effects of young people viewing pornography, this is a presentation to look at the topic, underline the legal position and discuss healthy relationships and consent. In the fast paced world qualities such as kindness can be overlooked, but research indicates that showing and receiving kindness support a lift in mood, making us feel happier and reducing anxiety. This presentation looks at the research and the benefits of being kind, what you can do, what the obstacles may be and the positive impact of volunteering. It includes links to videos, with timings so you can ascertain if they fit with your timing schedule. There are also optional discussion points and links to further reading and sources. This revisits material students have probably seen at school, but considers the scenarios of starting university and leaving home. It includes advice on spiking and dealing with being offered drugs. It allows for discussion of current issues around misogyny and where they may stem from, while giving opportunities to consider the differences faced by men and women going out in terms of their own safety. This assembly highlights this year’s theme of Anxiety, how it can affect anyone and everyone, but also looking at supporting and understanding those whose circumstances mean they are more vulnerable to feelings of anxiety. It looks at how you can cope with anxiety and where to seek help if you have ongoing problems with anxiety.
It will also be part of a bundle with other resources looking at situations where stress and anxiety are more prevalent, such as when facing disappointment, or in the face of exams, and areas of our lives we can work on to help improve our mental health, such as sleep, friendship and acts of kindness.
This lesson discusses the importance of World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development and includes opportunities for discussion and optional videos (timings included, so you can calculate what works for your time slot). The Teaching Notes include a link to duplicate a general knowledge quiz to begin to consider the value of cultural diversity and how much is already present in students’ lives. The presentation includes further reading and finishes with a plenary to evaluate the discussion and understanding.
There is a whole world out there to see, but travel is expensive, so this lesson looks at ways of seeing the world without breaking the bank, using skills and training young people might pick up on the way and alerts them to looking out for opportunities while students.

Osteoporosis Week comes at the beginning of June, but this could be part of PHSE at any juncture. The lesson discusses what the condition is and how it can affect the body, but also looks at preventative members and poses the question of why young people should be thinking of this/be aware now. In many ways it contributes to supporting a healthy diet and exercise regime, also highlighting the contributing factors of alcohol and smoking, eating disorders and steroid tablets. This presentation discusses the issues around Hate Crime and Disability, looking at what constitutes a disability and providing discussion points to consider various aspects of the question, including the question of advocacy and how to report or support someone experiencing such crimes. This bundle includes lessons on a range of Awareness Days, but all are easily adaptable to be used to broaden awareness of global issues and the importance of acting on them to make a difference for future generations.
Students will be thinking about going off to uni/apprenticeships and this presentation discusses big and little issues they may encounter and how to deal with them. It approaches the idea of preparing for challenges and thinking about how to cope, while also exploring the fact that it is natural to have different reactions and that seeking help is a strength. The presentation is wholly adaptable and works as a complete lesson or could be broken up into 5-10 minute sections for tutor time.

This resource allows for discussion around the damage being perpetrated by hate crime on a basis of religion and allows for discussion of terms around the subject, awareness of the history of such persecution, the religious make-up of England and Wales and the opportunity to understand what can be done to make a change and the role of the law.
